Birthday Party

We had Sophia's birthday party on Saturday, at the local park.  It was a small family affair, and we kept it pretty simple: threw some 'dogs and burgers on the grill and socialized for the most part.  It was warm, but the shade and a nice breeze made it comfortable.

Shelter sign!

Dad/Papa being an excellent bow-tie-er

Melinda and Thomas playing on the playground while Sophia supervises.

Grill masters.

Hanging out.

I think she wore more strawberry than she ate.  And, yes, those are sunglasses on the top of her head.  Gotta teach 'em young!

Birthday cake!  Mom/Meme did the expert white icing, and I did the not as expert letters.

How many people does it take to light a candle....

For me?!

Trying the icing...unfortunately there is not a picture of her spitting it out and wiping her tongue.  She did NOT like the icing, or the cake.  Guess I'll have to eat it....

Hanging out with Elizabeth/Mamaw and Sammie (the puppy)

Cousin Bree came to play, too!

Opening our presents.  She kinda got the concept.  She was much better with bags than at understanding paper.

What could this be, Nana?

A puppy bigger than her from Aunt Melinda and Thomas!

Decorating the ice cream truck box

More decorating.

Sophia had a great time, eating strawberries and hamburger, and didn't have a meltdown!  Granted, she fell asleep before we made it the 5 minutes home, but that's to be expected for such a busy day that ended so close to nap time.  Happy one year, kiddo!

  1. I love this, I think we may borrow a page from your book next year and keep it small and just family. That's what mine were and I felt that they were awesome!

  2. Mine were always small, and I don't think I could plan and coordinate anything big or themed! :)
